HE PROPOSED WITH BELLA’S ENGAGEMENT RING.
I love my girlfriend, and I have to say I love her a lot more than Robert “Robward” Pattinson or Edward Cullen loves her. I love her so much I intend to marry her one day. We’ve been going out for seven and a half years now and every day has brought me something new, but none as much as her latest obsession of the Twilight books. You see, Marianne and I met in high school when we were sixteen years old, and being introduced to Twilight made me feel like I was dating my sweet sixteen year old girlfriend again. Unlike some of the other guys I know dating girls obsessed with the books, my girlfriend never insisted that I read the series, but her obsession was making me curious. Now being as obsolete to books as I am, I walked into a book store forgetting the name of the Twilight novel and asked for a book with a girl holding an apple. I intended to surprise my girlfriend by reading it before she inevitably asked me to. Anyway, the clerk behind the counter was a man, an old man, and he showed me Snow White. I knew it wasn’t that… so I decided to look for myself and ended up finding Eclipse. It was a small bookstore and I was too scared to get caught buying Twilight in a larger one like Borders, so I bought Eclipse instead and read it. All of it. The Edward character inspired me to want to propose to my girl even sooner than before because he reminded me of how much I loved her. A few nights later after reading the book, Marianne was intending to buy a t-shirt to wear to the opening release of Breaking Dawn in August and she had the Twilight Teez website open on her computer. I promised I would buy her the shirt and that’s when I came across Bella’s engagement ring. It finally arrived three months later (give or take) and my plan was simple. I had bought a new bed frame despite there being nothing wrong with the old one. I even went so far as to get one with rose panels. She was confused when I showed her the new frame, but then I intentionally proposed to her the same way Edward did, “I promise to love you forever – every single day of forever. Will you marry me?” But it was her face that was most priceless, when she recognized the words I was saying and the ring that she was staring at in its black velvet box. Her reaction was dissimilar to Bella’s — she screamed and nodded and said “Oh my Cullen!” a lot — and I kissed each of her fingertips and the ring that was now hers. I’ve since read all other books in the Twilight series and we plan to get married next Spring.” Submitted by Lachlan |

I love the series and everything, but going to such great lengths to recreate Edward proposing to bella is a little creepy.

There are no limits to which love will stretch to please a loved one. Good for you Lachlan. She will remember it forever. It doesn’t matter what people think- it only matters to the two of you. A little fantasy and Romance never hurt anyone. The world is starving for it. Women have always known this- more men may finally get the idea. My generation fell in love with Gary Oldman as Dracula, and my husband of 30 years wore black pajamas in tribute to please me. Um… I actually would be kind of disappointed. My fiancee and I will not be Bella and Edward, and I’m glad. A guy and girl being that obsessed and over-the-top with each other is weird. It’s a cute book to read, but seriously. No thanks. Love is not saying things like “Sleep, my only love,” and just watching your girlfriend sleep for hours on end every night.
And she responded with “oh my Cullen?” To getting engaged? I would be downright embarrassed to tell my future children and grandchildren that.
“Sane” Girl, that was rather… well, rude. He knows she really likes the books and Edward, so he did that for her, and she clearly appreciated it. What’s wrong with that?

He took the time to try to understand what it was that captivated her, not even realizing he would get hooked, and then he did something beautiful and romantic that would mean something special to them, took what some of you are calling an unoriginal idea and made it a memory for the rest of their lives. Ugh, how perfectly lame. If people still insist on getting married, why don’t we get a little more creative with proposals, eh? Especially when copying out of a book as God-awful as Eclipse.
