A guy reads Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (2009-2011)

Go Buy The Host

This is the week, people! We have to get Stephenie up to number 1 by everyone getting the book this week! Go out and get The Host!

The Host by Stephenie Meyer

If you have The Host already, report in on the comment box! I want to know what you think if it (and if you already finished it!). Also, anyone camp out for it? Who got there the earliest? And tell me the First and Last word (just for fun 😉 )

Also, so you know, Stephenie’s interview on The Glenn Beck Show has been moved to Thursday, May 8.

I will be reading another chapter of Twilight very soon! I just have to drag my flu-ridden self out of bed for a few minutes… 😀 . I’ll post up the next chapter early tomorrow!

  1. I got the Host a couple of days ago (I live in England) but I had a heavy workload so I wasn’t able to start it until today, and even then I only got to read the first few chapters. And so far… wow. I really enjoy her way of writing, and the main character seems to be very interesting. I should be revising for exams instead of reading but I know I’ll be reading the book instead… I’m so going to fail my History exam… damn…

  2. I’m getting the Host today! I’m at work right now but I’m gonna be out and about here for at least half an hour to go and buy it!! Hehehe….unfortunately though, I’m buying the book for my friend’s birthday, which is tomorrow! haha. *sigh* lol

  3. I haven’t read it yet, but I am getting it today. On a side note, I thought you all might be interested to know…SM said The Host was also going to be a trilogy!!! How did I hear this? I read it on the Lexicon under personal correspondence, referenced below for those of you who want more than just my word for it :-p

The Q & A from the February 2007, BYU Symposium

“Q: What’s up with The Host?
A: The Host is Stephenie’s adult Sci-Fi book that should be out spring of 2008. She will be able to start editing in March. She said that it’s technically Sci-Fi because it has aliens and things, but that it doesn’t really feel like a Sci-Fi book. The Host will be a trilogy also.”

  4. Well I’m kinda stuck in my house because I just had a total hip replacement so I won’t get the book today.(I know a 23 year old having a hip replacment just doesn’t sound right does it?)But I pre-ordered it so it should be coming soon I just have to be patient and wait for it to come to me. I’m excited though, and can’t wait to read it.

  5. I’m at college but work at a local bookstore at home, which I support 100%! So I ordered my copy there and my parents have received the mission to pick it up for me today and bring it with them when they come to move me out. At least I won’t be distracted while I study for finals x_x

  6. My wife is out getting The Host right now as I type this. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if she were checking out and paying my our her hard-earned money on it right now.

  7. I got it this morning. Here in UT they are also selling tickets for a book signing on the 16th. There were 500 tickets at the store. I got in line around 8:30 this morning and was one of the last people to get tickets. I think there were like 10 left after mine. Some people camped out! I haven’t gotten a change to start it yet but I sure am looking forward to it!

  8. I’m here kicking myself for not had pre-paid for it when I had money now I have to wait till either the “tax rebate” check gets here or my dh gets paid next week, urgh!!

  9. I just picked it up, but haven’t started reading it yet because I’m in the middle of re-reading Eclipse. Soon as I finish Eclipse I’m gonna dig into it.

    First Word: The

    Last Word: agreed

    Hope you feel better soon.

  10. Aww…I want it SOOO bad! But I can’t buy it because I don’t have any money and my parents won’t let me drive in the big city by myself to go get it at the book store. So I have to wait until this weekend for them to take me to go get it. NO SPOILERS PEOPLE, even if you read it in a day lol.

And I really hope you get well soon Kaleb, I know the flu sucks big time…and we can’t wait for you to get to read more Twilight! I love chapter 8 Port Angeles coming up soon!

  11. OME! I was looking at my emails and saw a coupon for the Host and I flipped! (because I didn’t have enough money before and now I did) I forced my poor sick mother to take me to the bookstore between dropping my sisiter off at girl scouts and the other at horseback rididng (this is letting me vent my guilt!) so anyway I GOT IT!!!! I’m thrilled to start reading it, even though edwards not in it (:)

  12. I had to race over to the next town on my 30 minute break to get it, but I’ve got it (yay) Now I only have to go read it ^_^;

  13. Got it at lunch…read the first few chapters…we’ll see, I didn’t think i would like a book about vamps but I am in love, so why not give aliens a shot?

    Happy reading…

  14. There were people camped out in Frisco when I got there at 5:30 (though I to wake up at 4 because I live in Dallas).

After about eight chapters (I think) I went to go catch up on sleep, as I was too exited to sleep last night. I just woke up. 🙂 and now I’m going back to read it.

  15. I pre-ordered the book on Amazon. Should be here soon. like in a couple of days! I can’t wait. SM is such an amzing writer. it will be interesting to read a book thats not The Twilight Series. I am a Twilighter all the way, but I might end up the same with this book. Who knows? =]

  16. I live in a small town so we don’t always get new books right when they come out, we usually have to wait a few days for them to be shipped. Even if we do pre-order them. *sigh* The woes of a small town woman. – and oh my gosh right as I am typing this comment the store phoned and said the book actually came in on time! My utterly horrendous bad day has just been salvaged! Hurray! I am off to the store to buy my copy of The Host and read until the sun goes down.

  17. i got the host early (lucky me!) and it was, well, amazing. of course. the first couple hundred pages were a little bit slow, (not bad, just slow) but then, it got really, really good. i couldn’t put it down. it was different–more of a love rectangle then a love triangle, in a sense, and that was almost the sub plot.
it was really good, tho. honestly. parts reminded me of The Books (twilight, new moon, eclipse). like, at a couple parts, i just had to clap, and then yell, “now THAT was an Edward Jacob moment!”
i didn’t know if i’d like the book, because it’s adult and i’m not a fan of sci-fi…but, as i am repeating myself, i know, it was really good. amazing.

  18. I borrowed an ARC from a friend last month and read it cover to cover THREE times b/f I had to give it back. I LOVED it!! I liked it better than Twilight (if that is even possible). I pre-ordered my copy from Amazon, it should be here in a couple of days. I can’t wait to read it again. Even my husband promised to read it for me. I liked the characters and the story better than Twilight.

  19. Iam buying my copy tonite when i go into work. I work at a book store 🙂

  20. I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of The Host. It was awesome! It’s very character-driven, with a few intense action scenes mixed in, and raises thought-provoking questions about what it really means to be human. I am definitely hoping for sequels!

    Love your blog!

  21. Not going to lie, I was pretty excited about this book… pre-ordered it from ebooks online at BooksOnBoard, where the price is comparable to a paperback. Stayed up all last night reading it. I thought it was really good! I can see why this is labeled as an “adult” novel… the themes are more complex than in the Twilight series, and the plot is definitely less “safe” (not that Twilight was “safe”, but everyone is familiar with the concept of vampires). Meyers has big ideas, and I can’t wait to read her next offering, whether it’s geared towards adults or teenagers.

  22. Hi, I’m a newcomer to your site, and I think it’s so awesome that you’re inputing what you think about the books and bringing such a positive outlook on men reading the series and the books itself.

Can’t wait to see what else you have in store!

Oh, and The Host looks like a great book. I’ll pick up a copy this week 🙂

  23. I got The Host just a couple of hours ago, but I’m too excited to sit still and read it right now. I just found out that a bunch of my favorite book series are ‘updating’ right in a row, so I’m freaking out!!!!

  24. Yeah I just got it, a few of my friends and I all went together, we had been planning this for a while. But I can’t read it until AP testing is over with… so that means next week, and then I have finals so really, I have no time until summer. But it looks great!

I hope you feel better! I always look forward to checking your blog!

  25. Just bought the host 😀 It’s awesome so far, but alas I am only on page 50… But to anyone who hasn’t, go buy it 🙂

  26. YES! I bought The Host on Monday my time (Sunday in the states). And finished it yesterday! It is VERY interesting. I absolutely LOVED the story and didn’t expect to fall in such love with the characters. BRAVO!!!

  27. I bought it. I’ve just finished chapter 1 and it was a little confusing but definitly makes me want to read more.

  28. Yeah, I got my brother to pick me up right after school, and I went to my local Chapter, and it was right on display in the front of the store! So i just go straight there, make a turn, buy it, and i’m out of there in under 5 minutes. I read the first couple of chapters, but I had to stop because I have to do homework. So far, it’s pretty good!

  29. the first word the “The” and the last word is “agreed.”…
i know i do that all the time too, to see if the first and last word of the book is any secret message or whatever.
ive only read the first couple chapters because ive got a lot of work to do, but i swear i will probably be reading instead of sleeping tonight.

  30. Ugh my dad won’t buy me the host until the weekend because we got in a huge fight when I insisted on staying up until 3 o’ clock in the morning on a school night to read Eclipse. Can’t wait until Saturday!

  31. I love your website! I totally respect you for being a guy and reading Twilight. I just bought The Host at Target-I maneuvered my mum to take me while going grocery shopping. I haven’t read it yet because I want to see how long it takes me to read it entirely in one sitting. Seeing as I finished the Twilight series in about 1 day and a few odd hours(I don’t think I slept for more than 4 hours and I didn’t leave my room except for bathroom breaks), it shouldn’t take me too long. Cheers for addicting books!

  32. I just bough it and just started it but I’m already hooked!! it’s amazing and I’ve gotten through like 18 pages…

  33. I went to the MOA book signing and it was amazing. I got out of school (and gym class) at noon and sat in line for 6 hours. I wasn’t the first in line, but I was really close. xD Stephenie Meyer’s book The Host is kick butt. ^_^

  34. I was really sad when I knew that I had no time to go buy the book today (I settled for tomorrow) since I had class.

But I got lucky, because since it was my first day of summer school, the lecture only consisted of introductions…long story short, my supposedly 3 hr lecture lasted for only 40 mins XD!!

So I rushed back home and on the way I bought the book. =D~!! Yay!

    – yet another fan girl aka. Robby

P.S. this is my first time commenting (despite the fact that I’ve been visiting here for a while) and I just want to say “Yay for twilightguy!!”

  35. I’ve got to say, I am very disappointed. When I walked into my local Barnes and Noble, I did not have to go far in to see a display table with one half piled high whit The Host, the other with other Twilight series books. I had to wait until after school to go get it, so all day I had feared they would run out before I got a chance to stop by. But it looked like no one had purchased a single copy! Hopefully more people will buy it soon.
So far, I really like it. It’s kind of cool to note that I can recognize Stephenie Meyer’s writing style.
I don’t think I will finish it because I really should study tonight.

  36. My. Mom. Won’t. Let. Me. Get. It.

My birthday’s next week…so she wants me to wait…

Hope you get better soon! Flu sucks, ya know?

  37. Getting a hold of The Host was actually quite a challenge for me today.
I had planned to get up really early and head over to the store before school started, but for some strange reason my alarm clock didn’t go off.
Lunch is almost an hour long, so that would have been the perfect time to get it. But a large truck, unloading textbooks, parked in front of my car. They wouldn’t move even when I told them that it was a Stephenie Meyer emergency!
Even after school I was attacked by friends that just HAD to have a ride home or to work.
After everything was out of the way I ran a stop sign just to get to the mall as quickly as possible. In all my hurry I accidently parked on the opposite side of where the bookstore was. Not even bothering with my car I ran clear across the mall and only tripped once.
I only stopped when I was at the cash register, clutching the book. A worker at the store just smiled at me and asked if I was a Twilighter.
I am happy to say that I have the huge book in my lap and I can’t wait to read every single word.

  38. Normally I would have just stayed in town and bought the book here, but Stephenie is going to be in Houston on Friday and I just had to go! And I am! I didn’t camp out, but I woke up at 4am to drive to Houston from San Antonio…AND I got my wristband to see her on Fri:D I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but I will in a little bit…I still can’t believe that I’m going to see her:D
    First:The
    Last:agreed
    P.S You rock:)

  39. I just got back from Borders and I now have my copy of The Host! I can’t wait to start it!!

  40. I got it and I am going back to reading as soon as this is posted. It’s great so far, though. I love her style of writing.

  41. I got an advanced copy of THE HOST several days ago, so I’ve FINISHED it already.

VERY GOOD… I heared Stephenie’s voice clearly all the way through, and there are some truly loveable characters (as always)… plenty of moments that make you squirm, and also moments that you go back and re-read over and over, a la TWILIGHT… two thumbs up.

  42. I bought it on the way home from work, but I haven’t had a chance to read it yet. Can’t Wait!

  43. I went out and bought The Host today! I’m very excited to crack it open when I crawl into bed tonight.
And as for you, feel better!

  44. Urgh, I’m with the other people who have AP tests this week. My last one is next wednesday, & I don’t trust myself to get it until then because then I won’t study!! SO FRUSTRATING!!

  45. What is wrong with Denverites?? I woke up super-early today so I could go to the selected bookstore to buy my book and ticket for the signing in a couple of weeks. I knew there would be a long line of teenage girls just ready to pounce when the doors opened. And even though I only arrived one hour before tickets went on sale…there were only four or five people waiting ahead of me! Where’s the S.Meyer enthusiasm in CO?? btw…shocker: I’m almost 30 and it seemed I was the youngest one there. And I’ve just finished the prologue and chapter one and I’m already AMAZED!!

  46. I’m in the Philippines and I got The Host on April 24th (no kidding) so I have long finished it. I don’t know why it was released here early because I was expecting (like everyone else) that it would come out on May 6. But yea whatever. I’m not complaining.

    The Host is good.

    But Twilight’s still better. XD
