A guy reads Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (2009-2011)

TwilightGuys Report: He Discovered Twilight On Facebook

I’m a 20 year old guy, i live in Venezuela (that’s a country in the north of south america for the ones who have never heard of it) and i had never heard of Twilight until one night when I was going through the “bumper stickers” application of my Facebook account. I realized there were a bunch of stickers that talked about this “Edward Cullen” dude… they were everywhere you looked! They read things like “I have a hard time dealing with the fact that Edward Cullen is not a real person”, “New moon confessions: I skipped all the chapters without Edward in them” and so on…

Curiosity took over me and i decided to google this Edward. Was he a singer? Maybe an actor? And why on earth was he so important? The search eventually led me to Stephenie Meyer and her apparently famous-in-other-countries books. Having grown up a Harry Potter freak, this sounded like something had finally come that could fill the hole the series left. And NEVER in my search did I read anything about it being a book for girls.

So I got the book and started reading it and, just as anyone else, it just took a couple of chapters to get me hooked!

Somewhere around chapter 13 i thought “This is getting kind of girly but if it is a major bestseller then its gotta be worth it” and i was right, it WAS worth it! I finished Twilight, then MADE MY GIRLFRIEND READ IT and then started reading New Moon immediately.

It was a matter of time for us to find out there was a movie coming and so we thought “These books are SO good and now there’s a movie coming out at the end of the year. This is gonna be a huge phenomenon and we might be some of the first ones to have read it here in Venezuela, why isn’t anyone else reading them yet?”

Over the next few days we started recommending it to everyone we knew, male or female, and we found out some of them were already reading them. So yeah… some guys, just like me, thought it was a little too girly in some parts but we all agreed that was meant to happen with any book narrated from a girls point of view.

I’m a twenty year old male, I read the book first and THEN recommended it to MY GIRLFRIEND, and now all my friends (GUYS AND GIRLS) are reading it and enjoying it!”

That’s different, a GUY getting their GIRLFRIEND to read it. Finally 😀

  6. Oh, FINALLY, a guy who bothered reading it then giving it to his girlfriend instead of a blind gift or utter ignorance of what a Twilighter is!

Also, a very, very happy birthday to you, Kaleb!!! Good luck now being an adult without having a one in front of their names and not being archaic-ly old either!!! We all love ya, man!

  11. OMG! same here!!! the first time I heard about Twilight was in December I was on Bumper Stickers and I saw one that said “Edward Cullen.. raising the standards for boyfriends since 1901” or something like that. and I was like.. “oooooh! maybe he’s hot.” so I Googled him and here I am! 😀

  12. I’m trying to get my friend from Nicaragua (its a country in central America) to read it…I know she’s gonna love it therefore spreading the Twilight goodness!!!!

    we’re taking over!!!

    Happy B-Day!!!!

  13. This is actually exactly how I discovered Twilight. No one I knew in Colorado had ever even heard of them, but I saw all these icons about them on Facebook, and some pretty hilarious quotes (the ones that got me to finally read the books quoted the lines, “You might have noticed my boyfriend glitters. It’s just something he does in the sun. Don’t worry about it.” and, “‘Fall down again, Bella?’ ‘No Emmett, I punched a werewolf in the face.'”) The only thing I knew about the story before I started reading was that they were about vampires. I didn’t even know it was a series, I thought it was just the first book. I got a very different story than I was expecting, but it was still great!

  14. Happy belated birthday Kaleb! Haha that was hilarious. So ironic how it was the boyfriend recommending it to the girlfriend when its almost always the other way around…

  15. That’s great that he suggested it to his girlfriend. And Happy Birthday, Kaleb. I totally forgot about your birthday, sorry.

  16. OME!!!! Happy Belated Birthday!! I am from Venezuela and not many people have heard of it but i have made my friends read it too!lol
